ISAIAH 9:6-7

6 For to us a child is born,


to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,


and his name shall be called


Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,


Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 Of the increase of his government and of peace
    

there will be no end,


on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
    

to establish it and to uphold it


with justice and with righteousness
    

from this time forth and forevermore.


The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

HEAR: Listen to what the Lord may be speaking to you. Reflect on these questions:

  • How can you prepare your heart for the good news of Jesus’ birth? Spend time asking Holy Spirit to help you refocus on this miracle.

  • How has Jesus been “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” in your life?

  • There is no end to Jesus’ reign. He “established it and upholds it with justice and righteousness.” Ask God to reveal where you may struggle to believe this and to remind you of his faithfulness.

RESPOND: Respond in prayer to God.

  • Collectively spend time praising Jesus for who He is and that we have hope in Him alone.

  • Intercede for your friends, family, coworkers and those you encounter day to day. Pray that the good news of Jesus’ birth will bring hope, peace, joy and love.

  • Pray that God’s kingdom is establish on Earth and inBoston “from this time forth and forevermore”
